This chair has been an exercise in patience, the bane of my existence and quite frankly, a pain in my derriere!
I purchased it several years back from a yard sale for $10.00 and I loved the lines of it and the vintage feel it possessed. Over the years I've had many dreams, hopes & plans for this little chair but have done nothing with it until my son recently requested he have a chair in is new (made over) bedroom. Finally I would use this chair!
I took it outside and gave it a good sanding.
Primed it.
Painted it in a cream colour and then applied a coat of stain over top.
I used the existing cushions as a template and sewed new slipcovers.
My first set of slipcovers were just too big so I had to rip out all my stitching and start from scratch. I started and stopped and restarted this sewing project several times over the past few months ~ each session ending with me more frustrated then the last.
I am so happy I am done this project because I wasn't feeling the love.
I am feeling the LOVE about my upcoming Christmas Giveaway! I have been carefully putting together some items that should help get us all into the spirit of Christmas!
Stay Tuned ~ Cheers~

It looks great and I'm sure you're glad you finished... I just hate when I have a project to complete and I'm 'not feeling the love'... the older I get, the more projects I just say "nevermind, I'm done!"
ReplyDeleteI think it looks fantastic! The fabric looks great with the paint job now!

ReplyDeleteHi Lisa- great job on the chair!!! It does have great lines and now it has a great look and feel too!! The pillows look perfect for it- I bet your son is loving it already! :)
ReplyDeleteLisa,
ReplyDeleteThe chair looks great. I like the color and you did a nice job on the cushions! I'm sure your son thinks its great and comfy too.
I do know what you mean about a project that you just don't "love" it seems like you always have to keep fussing over it or play with it until you get it just right! I've got quite a few things like that of my own, maybe that's why I'm always changing somethings ;)
Chris
Hey Lisa...
ReplyDeleteI am really glad your son needed a chair because this piece deserved to come out of "hiding". You were right about purchasing it in the first place. The lines are great. That leather throw pillow is fabulous! Did you make that too?
I sent you a note through Etsy... :)
Take care,
Lisa

You did a bang-up job on that chair. I LOVE it now. I'm glad it's still residing in your home. Very good job. Ann
ReplyDeleteI love the lines of your chair! Slipcovers for cushions are NOT easy. Even when you've done them before something mysterious happens and you just can't quite figure out why it's not fitting correctly! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI like the chair but I LOVE that pillow...I'm a recovering chair addict also....my hubby says if I bring one more home he is going to commit me ! I'm going to have to learn how to paint furniture...seems it is all the rage...that spray can primer looks good to me...
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous find and love the technique you used ~ paint then stain ~ what a terrific final outcome!!

Love the chair! Hmmm... ripping out... that is exactly what I did to a project last night. Sooo frustrating, but maybe I'll pick up again where I left off (I was really ticked! :)). I just adore that chair! Great job!! -Tammy
